Since EncaustiCamp’s beginnings in 2010 it has held potential for coexistence. Going abroad to Australia, New Zealand, Bali, and Italy satisfied this vision to a degree but now, with this revitalized launch, EncaustiCamp is formatted to two US regions twice-yearly. 

While Hearth will be held in July at its origins in Washington state, Horizon will take root in the southeast, the Nashville area, at Evins Mill Re​treat Center.

This location too encompasses the value for all our retreat opportunities; that of mindful practice, immersive experience, and freedom to connect to the core of your creativity. 

This second location will host each year in April, holding the same week-long, all-inclusive experience, but with its own core of instructors and techniques to broaden your creative horizons. Immersion for both seasoned artists and those new to the medium can be around the studio table.

Tiny Encaustic Tales: Whispers of Nature in Paper and Wax

Calling all paper lovers and color enthusiasts! Join me for a day of playful exploration where we'll capture the quiet beauty and subtle magic of the natural world in miniature encaustic collages. Inspired by the textures and hues around us – perhaps the delicate veins of a leaf, the vibrant burst of a flower, or the gentle rhythm of water – we'll dive into a luscious collection of papers, each with its own unique story to tell.

We'll begin by letting our imaginations wander, perhaps even taking a moment to connect with the environment and gather a mental palette of colors and forms. Then, the real fun begins! I'll share a few simple and joyful ways to adhere these paper treasures, showing how they can dance and layer within the embrace of warm beeswax. Watch as translucent veils of wax enhance the colors and create a luminous depth, bringing our tiny paper landscapes to life.

Everyone will create a special 6"x6" piece on a wood panel – our "cover story" of the day – and will also have the chance to play with smaller boards and watercolor paper to explore other nature-inspired ideas or even let a bit of delightful silliness sneak in with interpretations of "tree," "flower," or "waterfall."

This workshop is all about the pleasure of paper, the thrill of color combinations, and the joy of seeing them come together in the dreamy embrace of wax. All materials will be provided, so come ready to unleash your inner paper whisperer and create your own tiny encaustic tales!

The Soul of Your Mark: Discovering Your Unique Artistic Voice

We'll begin with guided exploration in creating numerous layered, luminous works that capture your unique vision. Once these inspired pages are created, you'll bring your collection together, binding your pieces into an art book featuring encaustic board covers holding together the collection of painted paper pages that the entire week has manifest.
